If you’ve been having Big ups and downs lately… This is for you

Hello Dear One,

Have your emotions and thoughts been in a washing-machine lately? Astrologers are talking about high intensity in the month of September, and everyone I speak to for more than 2 minutes tells me they’ve had Big ups and downs, big growth and big challenges.

So if you’ve been starting your day feeling royally crap, and ending it feeling like all your dreams are coming true, I want to offer you something for these times… and its right at your finger-tips (teehee).

 it’s … Body Focus

When you bring your attention into your body and out of your thoughts, the intensity of your experience slows down and it becomes easier to be present. Even your positive thoughts (about how well things are going, how great you feel) have a way of pulling you out of now and out of real moment presence. This may be enjoyable in the moment but is not often grounded in what is real now, so you can get lost in fantasy and have less ability to respond to whats actually going on in your world.

The body can only be here now.

When you give your attention to your body, it naturally brings you Here. Now. And then the stories and pain or pleasure can be felt more directly, without interpretation. This stops feeding the story or the pain and allows them to unwind and unhook from your experience. From my in-depth training in Somatic Experiencing (a therapy designed to access unconscious patterns held in the body and unconscious) I know that being present-now is crucial for managing life’s ups and downs without losing yourself to old feelings and recurring pains.

When you are being spun by life, bringing your attention to your body is easier, more grounded and more empowering than trying to work with, or getting lost in the thoughts in the mind.

So I invite you to try this with me now.

Pause what you are doing and just sense/feel into your heart*.

Let your breath come into the centre of your chest, feel the softness or hardness there. Just breathing. Letting any thoughts drift on by like clouds. Noticing if the breath in there helps to increase softness, noticing what happens to the emotions, to the muscles and to your bones, just noticing. If there is a settling feeling, just stay with that, really take in the settling, the relaxation.

*If you are feeling anxious and the heart is beating fast, don’t go into your heart area, find somewhere in the body that feels more relaxed, more at ease and hold your attention there, doing the same noticing practice.

When I sense into my heart it softens and takes away the edges of my experience. It also brings me into the moment and helps emotions to move without me hanging onto them or making up a story about them. Giving the heart your simple presence can make pain, sadness, anger, loneliness or excitement all manageable and beautiful because they simply are.

I’d love to hear how you are going with the washing machine of life. Are you feeling cleaner from it all or is the mud all stirred up and icky?!

I wish you courage and grace in these powerful times

And if you are in need of a skilled and compassionate ally for the road, someone to help you get present, to manage your ups and downs, to heal and clear old unconscious patterns, Im here to help

With much love,

Amanda
