Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a method for working with and reinstating a persons innate survival mechanism, and thus bringing them closer to their instinctive, alive and natural self. When life is shocking or traumatic in one off events or on-goingly, we hold that trauma in our nervous system as numbness, reactivity or lack of flexibility. SE is a gentle and profound method for healing the unconscious blocks and traumas held in the nervous system.
From Somatic Experiencing’s Facebook page:
“Somatic Experiencing (SE®) is a gentle and highly effective psycho-biological approach to the prevention and resolution of trauma and stress-related conditions. Developed by Peter A. Levine, PhD, author of the best-selling book, “Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma,” and recipient of the 2010 USABP Lifetime Award, SE is based on the study of how animals in the wild process and recover from stress and life-threatening situations. SE is taught worldwide and is practiced by over 8000 trauma professionals on six continents. The result of over forty years of observation, research, and clinical development the SE method is based upon the realization that human beings have an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma. SE restores nervous system self-regulation, and returns a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals who have had these precious gifts taken away”.
